A Bully Laid Bare

I've just completed a book by Sasha Dreams, a unique work chronicling her early childhood, which at times was difficult to read.  Not due to the writer's abilities but rather the content.  Sasha has written something so deep and painful that it touched me in a way no other book has.  A child's psyche twisted and changed under the weight of neglectful, irresponsible parents, and more is heartbreaking.  The morphing of this girl from a talented, energetic child to a 'monster' of sorts is appalling but also incredibly insightful.  Getting a glimpse into the bully's life, her struggles, thoughts, and actions is truly eye-opening.
If you've ever been bullied or know someone who is -- this is a book you should read and pass on.  The work is not complete and I'd expect to see something soon from this gifted new author.
Recommended for school children, 10 and older, and adults.

Amazon 5 Star Review:
"Outstanding read!! I picked this book up around 12:00 am and put it down around 2:00 am, when I finished it. Sounds unreasonable? Let me know how it goes for you when you start reading it. The author, Sasha Dreams, has taken a course of action that many of use fail to take, she confronted her “demons” and the darkness that controlled her young life. Throughout the course of the book I felt great joy, sadness, anger, disappointment and most importantly HOPE. The cover and title speaks volumes about the content of the book, but I can assure you there is much more. Bullying has been a hot topic in today’s society, and I believe Sasha Dreams exposes the mind of a bully. Often times we ask the question, why? Well, I suggest reading this book, and I believe you will gain a plethora of knowledge on the mindset of a bully. One lesson I have learned from this particular “chapter” of Sasha’s life is, no matter how bad the situation may be, with Jesus there is hope. This hope, as Sasha discovered, lies in true forgiveness. So without giving to much detail, travel with Sasha Dreams, and take a glance at her heart, I can assure, you will be blessed. I consider this book a testament to her boldness, and courageous attitude towards overcoming. I would suggest this book to anyone looking to gain more insight of a “bully” and the triumphant path of overcoming." -- KwileyBooks

Erotic Spy Thriller by JL McMillan

I've had the pleasure of communicating with this wonderful, new author and am pleased to recommend his novel to you this week.  It's currently available from Amazon with the Kindle Countdown Deal at only $0.99.  Pick up a copy before the 21st, when the price will go back to $2.99.

I've written a brief synopsis of the work below:

Traumatized and shattered, Adam lies awake, an untold pressure squeezing his lungs and wrenching his soul.  He spirals downward until his spirit is entirely broken and his will to live is brought into question…and then, he meets Jasmine.

Adam, an agent of France’s Intelligence Agency, is immediately smitten, taken in by the enticing woman, who works for the French embassy in Beirut, Lebanon. Their chance encounter is electric, jump-starting a fiery, dangerous affair, as well as breathing renewed vigor into their troubled lives.

The couple’s unresolved issues of the past and societal mores demonize their love, but they will not be denied.  Adam is captive to Jasmine’s beauty, and she is drawn to his strengths.  Together they will challenge the odds and test the limits of desire.

Jean-Louis McMillan’s Desire and Prejudice is much more than an erotic love story.  Set against the backdrop of a cultural divide, violence, and a region, ready to explode, this spy thriller has all the hallmarks of a great tale.

***Author’s Note: This is a contemporary love story with sexual content and strong language. Recommended reading age: 18+

Amazon 5 Star Review by Kathy
"After reading “Desire & Prejudice” I couldn’t believe the book was written by a first-time author. It is fast-paced and compelling, and very believable. I almost wonder if the book is a little bit autobiographical? If there is just one problem, is that it’s too short and ended kind of abruptly. I do look forward to reading more from Jean-Louis McMillan, and I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick read."

Another Amazon 5 Star Review by talpaz
"There were parts of “Desire & Prejudice” that were so heartbreaking and sad, and then parts that were steamy and full of life! Also, there are some moments of deeper meaning that made me feel so reflective. Good job, Jean-Louis McMillan. You had me feeling the full range of emotions with your book."

The Living Hunger Sequel - Getting There

Just wanted to post a quick update before the craziness of Thanksgiving hits and I have no time.  The Living Hunger Part 2 is moving along nicely (50% complete).  The introduction of new characters, as well as furthering the story of book 1 survivors has been a challenging, but rewarding.  Some of the new players lend themselves well to the 'flavor' of the series, while taking us in a slightly different direction.  I can't say much yet, but I think readers of the first installment will be satisfied with the way the story plays out and comes to a shattering conclusion.

Thanks for your patience and support.  The writing should be done before Christmas, opening the door for editing and publication for very early 2015.  I have a number of really unique ideas for the new year, which I'm researching now.  A new title will be available Holiday Season 2015 and the Second Edition of With Cruel Intent will also be available mid 2015.

2014

May you all have a truly amazing Thanksgiving with loved ones and friends.

'because' a Novel to Inspire

I was recently contacted by the author of because, a new release that is featured on my Indie Author site, and asked to spread the word about his book.  I am happy to do so.  It has struck a chord with me, as I've recently been diagnosed with some significant back issues, forcing me to walk with a cane.  I pray it's a temporary condition but the prognosis suggests otherwise.  Anyway, this book offers hope for the disabled and will help readers gain a greater perspective on life's challenges and how we face and overcome these trials.

The book is highly rated with a nice start up the Amazon charts.  Please take a minute to familiarize yourself with Jack A. Langedijk's work: because

Amazon 5 Star Reviews:

"I had the pleasure of Beta reading this work. I highly recommend this story to everyone of every age and every background. It has something special that will make everyone just a little better for having read it.

Robert Sanchez is a man who has it all, while living all his dreams to the fullest, his professional life is one that reaches others and truly has impact, his wife is the love of his life and his support, his daughter completes him as they encourage each others to reach the stars, a tragic accident threatens it all.

My favorite thing about this story is how it shows impact.. the impact of words, the impact of mental exercise, the impact your words can have on others unknowingly. With Great character interaction and a thrilling journey, this story will leave you feeling enlightened and encouraged." -- Sandra Ferrara

"Who is Robert Sanchez, and what is his problem? This is the question I asked myself throughout the book. The more I discovered about Robert, the more these questions became my own personal and introspective journey. As a special education resource teacher I know all too well that we are all handicapped in some ways, just as we are talented in other ways. Understanding this is the key to happiness. This is the spiritual evolution discussed in the ‘Celestine Prophesies’. ‘Because’ is an inspirational journey that is sure to lead to enlightenment for all who take that path. ‘Because’ is both the answer, and the question to better self-understanding and happiness." -- Shawn Smyth

Single Mothers Raising Sons, A Guide

Dr. William James has recently published a useful manual for single mothers, who find themselves raising boys through some very difficult years.  The book is new but already moving quickly up the Amazon charts as a favorite in its genre.

Synopsis:
With Single Mothers Raising Sons in a Fatherless Home, Dr. William James brings his experience to bear upon the serious topic of boys being raised in homes in which a father is not present. He knows all too well, that absent a strong male presence in their lives to show them what our society expects of a man, to teach them how to stand-up to everyday challenges and succeed, and to model the type of behavior that leads to dignity, respect, resiliency and honor, that young boys are susceptible to seek belongingness and self-identity by means often associated with poor-decision making and affiliation with peer groups that engage in anti-social behavior and activity.

Here in this report, Dr. James presents the actual stories of real mothers and their sons. Each story deals with a different stage of a boy's life and development, illustrates the challenges that go along with those stages, includes deep and honest discussion as to what went wrong and why, and then follows-up with insight and strategies for taking pro-active measures to get ahead of these issues before they become reality.

As a mother of a son in a fatherless home, or even if you just know of someone in this situation and care enough to want to make a difference, reading this report is the first step to getting involved.

Amazon $1.99
I was raised in a home by a single mother for many years.  She gave of herself in ways that astonish me to this very day.  We lost her many years ago, at the young age of 60.  She was a remarkable woman with insurmountable challenges, but somehow she managed to raise four boys, who reverence her as the single major factor in their success.  This 27-page guide strikes a chord with me and I'm sure it will assist any woman who needs some added help.

Zombies with a Biblical Twist

Amazon's new surge in short novellas continues with the release of Gregory P. Wolk's The Dead S.I.T.E. in October 2014.  The author takes a unique look at turning a Biblical theme on its head, writing a Zombie Apocalypse story with a flavor you'd never imagine.  The characters are well written, the story is original, and its consumable in a short period of time.  Readers are loving these short, read-in-an-afternoon tales and Greg delivers exactly that with this title.

The reviews are in and they are overwhelming positive.  Take a look below:

"I've read many of Greg's other works, but this book is one of my top favorites. If you love zombies, sci-fi, and biblical destruction, don't pass up this gem. I loved reading this story, for one, because whenever I thought I knew where the plot was going, Greg would sweep the rug from under me and take me somewhere completely different. The plot and concept is genius, unique, and refreshing. As Phoenix (the leader) and the rest of his crew escape their own planet's zombie apocalypse, they are divinely thrust into another's to stop it. Seth is a fantastic character and it was crazy to see him mirror Jesus' own biblical actions to help stop the apocalypse. This book has it all; great characters, action, sex, humor, and zombies. Straight up awesome." -- Jamie

Amazon $0.99

"Truly, this mind blowing book is top-notch. It blasted off with a captivating chapter which lie in wait for unaware readers to keep them captive to the very end, of which I am chief. The integration of biblical concepts in this Zombie apocalypse commands interest and enthusiasm when reading the book. Unquestionably, the lead characters are skillfully fashioned. The exciting twists and turns were perfectly planted. They intensified my interest and bloomed curiosity non-stop. I enjoyed every nanosecond of this intriguing book. Thumbs up to Gregory P. Wolk for such a magnificent tale!" -- Nickalous

"Wow, this articulate author has crafted an exciting tale that revolves around a Child chosen to save mankind. The planet is plunge in to chaos due to the dawn of zombies. The story line glided consistently with diverse twists and turns. The characters were top-notch. The author uses a unique style of writing which is utterly captivating. I dared not to remove my eyes from this magnificent page-turner. It moved so fast I could barely keep up. Unmistakably, this book waves an epic battle unlike any I have ever seen before. Thumbs up!" -- Nita

Pilots on Food Stamps - Say It Ain't So

Ben Mandell recently made me aware of his new book, Pilots on Food Stamps.  I wholeheartedly expected it to be a pun, a sarcastic lark that would be all fun and games.  I was wrong.  Ben's story is true, a behinds the scene look into the aviation industry and the value they place on their pilots: the very people in whom we trust our lives.  This is a recommended read, drawing all 5 Star Reviews from Amazon readers.  Take a minute to read what these individuals are saying:

Jamie - "All I can say is wow. I'm flabbergasted, yes, FLABBERGASTED, at how little pilots get paid. These are the guys who fly countless hours, literally holding the life of hundreds of people day after day, and they barely get paid enough to put food on the table?! Ben does a superb job of exposing the ugly truth to the airline industry and its ridiculous profits and greed. This book got me fired up. This really is a travesty. If you really want to know how airlines work, read this book. "

Amazon
Nita - "Frankly, I am stunned by how much pilots are being paid. This and other discouraging truths about the airline industry are being plainly unveiled by this knowledgeable author. His writing style is very detail and spot-on. Indeed this informative book holds truths that the general public doesn’t know and expels them in a very simplified manner. Overall, this is thought-provoking book is worth possessing."

Phoebe Stone - " I had the chance to live for several years in a country where becoming a pilot would be every little boy's dream, not only because of what it means but also because of the guarantee of having a comfortable life from a financial standpoint. I discovered this book on my friend's reader when she borrowed it to me as mine was broke, and I was attracted by the title - because to be honest I was shocked - I always thought being a pilot will provide financial comfort to one's family, no matter where in the world. Looking at figures, statistical measures - it seems things are not really like this in the US. On top of figures, this book is really a great journey in understanding the airport, airlines and employees of those world - what they do, how they do it, what matters and what doesn't - providing an interesting insight, on top of the main idea of the book."

Back to Writing Sequel

Good intentions are admirable but rarely seem to get anything done.  This thought has plagued me lately as I've dealt with increased professional demands, health issues and a host of other time-sucking obligations.  However, as of today I've reclaimed my life and hope to get back to what I love - writing.
The unnamed sequel to The Living Hunger is proving to be more of a challenge than I had anticipated - not so much due to plot, dialogue or storyline but mostly time.  I'm 25K words in and hope to complete the first draft by Christmas (fingers crossed).  Thanks to family, friends, and readers who have been patient, as I've cleansed my slate to start anew.

Grey's Anatomy meets The Walking Dead

Operation Z-Day Review by Kurt Schuett (Amazon 4 Stars)

Amazon $0.99

The first bravo I wish to extend to author Dennis Larsen is job well done in the creation of a strong female protagonist, Raven Falconer. I realize the recent trend and popularity in creating female protagonists in the action-adventure genre, especially in the apocalypse-dystopian sub-genre, but too many of the zombie-apocalypse stories available to readers lack strong female protagonists. And since this particular one happens to be a writer, I really connected well with her. One of my favorite quotes in the novel states, “An author’s ability to create, as well as destroy, had left a lasting impression with the young Raven, and she'd held nothing back in expressing her desires to her father.” The aforementioned quote is a powerful indication of not only the main character’s resilience but also of a thematic link all readers can equally relate to. Consequently, Dr. Larsen has also constructed a strong group of secondary characters that motivate, fortify, and extend the actions of the book’s protagonist, Raven—close friends and roommates to the bitter end, Bobi, Mick, and Hannah.

One of Dr. Larsen’s strengths as a writer is his ability to characterize, as I’m quite certain all of his readers will agree. Personally, I enjoyed the lead-up through Operation Z-Day’s rising action, especially when the reader was able to become more intimate with the thoughts, actions, and dialogue presented from the primary cast’s varying backgrounds and perspectives. One of my favorite introductions was to that of Ziggy, a colorful police officer who will undoubtedly play a more significant role per book two of The Raven Falconer Chronicles.

One aspect I hope readers don’t misinterpret as a caveat is the book’s length. Even though Operation Z-Day is on the shorter side, the story has multiple plots running through it. Yes, the crux may be an unconventional zombie apocalypse due to an airborne virus, but the author underlies the aforesaid with Raven’s internal conflict—a crucible of individualistic proportions. Raven must trade in her selfless optimism for realistic gut-wrenching self-preservation. As author Dennis Larsen personifies her as a “fiercely independent survivor,” Raven Falconer is a force to be reckoned with.

Since this story takes place in real-time Canada, that was another fantastic wrinkle I enjoyed; Mr. Larsen accentuated the experience with quality local color realism, highlighted with dialect and mannerisms that are characteristic of life above the United States’ northern border. Other things most readers should find appealing include Larsen’s creation of cannibalistic “huskers” (readers will have to digest the book in order to truly appreciate this label) who take on the role of uncharacteristic undead, able to hold onto some familiar memories and feelings while capable of methodical and systematic plotting.

Most of the horror element in this book is subtle, but what smash-and-dash violence that is provided is detailed and exciting. Subsequently, Larsen’s pacing is spot-on as he provides enough complications and crises that are not even zombie-related to keep readers on their toes.

The only forewarning I would extend is to readers who hold enmity toward overly-sympathetic threads, as this particular book has a few that border cliché. Even with that said, readers who enjoy this particular genre undoubtedly expect some degree of formula, which may in fact work towards the author’s advantage in terms of book sales.

If you are looking for a solidly written and fast-paced apocalyptic read, look no further than Operation Z-Day. At .99 cents per e-book, this is a solid investment that should hook you into reading its sequel.

"I have been a Facebook user for a long time and at first I thought Instagram is for a millennial generation, posting pictures and such. Since I am fairly new so I grabbed this book to see what it will do for me in using this application. Voila, I found this book. It is easy to read, simple and straight to the point. I found the interviews insightful as to it's good for all ages and different backgrounds, both personal and for business. Facebook has its place but in Instagram, you have your followers, and the book tells you to build your brand, value and maintain the relationship and be interactive with your followers - it can go viral very quickly. I find this book very easy to read, content is good and can't wait for another one to come out!" -- Mongoose JC

"As a budding entrepreneur I have been actively looking for ways to use social media to promote my business. In this category there are quite a few books that claim to help you but really most of them are full of fluff that could be easily found via an internet search. This is one of the few books that gives an easy to implement guide to utilize Instagram to promote your business. Until i read this book I really had no idea what Instagram was. I thought it was just something used to make fun pictures for Facebook. That is how clueless I was about this application. I now am armed with the knowledge to use this to drive people to my website. This is one of the few books that if used properly, can actually make you money." -- Irish Times

"Straight and to the point, with just the right amount of examples.. This book is organized very well and written in an easy going conversational style. I especially liked the interviews with followers and entrepreneurs which was insightful. Thumbs up!" -- Pete B Hom

FREE Download Oct 3rd - Unificationists: What They Believe

Have you heard of Moonies?  Most have, but have you ever known one?  Me either.  I was contacted by writer and Unificationist, Nelson Mira, and asked to promote his work.  I was pleased with the prospect and delighted to get a free copy of his book.  I look forward to gaining a greater understanding of their beliefs, doctrines and practices.  Like so many religious groups, I believe them to be misunderstood, ridiculed and pigeon-holed, but is it warranted?  I hope to find out.

This unique work is FREE today, Friday Oct. 3rd.  Please download and read about mass weddings, community service and more!

Amazon
Synopsis:
When you hear the news of “Moonies mass wedding,” where thousands of people get married at the same time in the same location and some of them meet for the very first time, what do you think? You might be thinking, “What on earth? What are these people thinking?” I am sure that those brides and bridegrooms were thinking that they made the right choice. I guess the real questions to ask are, “What compels them to do it?” and “What do they believe?”
Over the past decades, the Unification Church has become a delightful recipe for cooking attractive news, articles, and books. Many writers have feasted on their beliefs and stories, judging them as cults and calling their teachings “most bizarre.”
This book gives you the writer's understanding of how unique the church's basic teachings called the “Divine Principle” are and show you the Divine Principle’s interpretations of the Bible in comparison with conventional Christian interpretations.

Amazon 5 Star Review:
"A must if you want to know Unification Church teachings -- doesn't go deep but the main points are all there, in a very clear way."
More than just a church:
The Unification Church, also called the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, is a new religious movement founded in South Korea in 1954 by the late Rev. Sun Myung Moon. Since its founding, the church has expanded throughout the world with most members living in East Asia. It has sponsored many organizations and projects over the years including businesses, news media, projects in education and the arts, service projects, interfaith events, and social activism.

From Harlem With Love by Joseph Holland

Everything I know about Harlem comes from the nightly news and Hollywood -- neither source worthy to give a true, impartial history.  Writer Joseph Holland explores a story that every American should understand.  Take a look at the synopsis and reviews below:

As a diplomat's son, star athlete, and Harvard Law School graduate, in the early 1980s, Joseph Holland had a world of opportunities awaiting him on Wall Street and in corporate America. Instead, Holland moved to the inner city, driven by a divine calling full of unfolding mystery and challenge. He found himself in Harlem during the nadir of its blight and endeavored to contribute to a neighborhood that was tough in every sense of the word. A Republican among Democrats, a privileged Southern scion among working-class Northerners, Holland earned his stripes as an entrepreneur/activist embracing a vision of personal and community transformation. A five-year sojourn became a three-decade commitment, as his Harlem-based career morphed from practicing law to empowering the homeless, to running small businesses, to writing plays, to serving in politics, to building housing—all aimed at revitalizing a beaten-down, dream-deferred cultural mecca haunted by poignant memories of its glory days in the early twentieth century. Part memoir, part cultural and political history of Harlem, and part vividly depicted tour guide, From Harlem with Love is filled with wittily mordant insights into a neighborhood that has touched the highs and reached the lows, and yet remains indisputably one of the most storied and vital centers of African American culture.

Amazon $8.99

Amazon 5 Star Review by Sara Green:
"As a resident of Harlem, I am familier with the struggles and success of Joseph Holland.  In fact, I was the recipient of the apartment of J. Raymond Jones and am very familiar with Daniel Burrows, father in law of ex Mayor David Dinkins. Joe Holland lived on Convent Ave where I still reside. Not once did I pass him on the street and he didn't take the time to respond to a hello or small talk. To be as well educated and the son of such a prestigious family, I am proud to say that despite his good fortune, he fought for and received the respect of everyone who was privileged to know or be associated with him. I am so pleased that he wrote this book because now the world will be aware of his legacy. And yes, it is all true!! It is a remarkable story of his still youthful life."

Amazon 5 Star Review:
"Yay for an original story! In Favor of Fools is funny well-told story about a PI. The humor and sarcasm really make the book and you just have to keep turning the page because every situation and scene is over the top in a good way. Because it's a mixed genre book, it's not formulaic yet some of the familiar conventions are there.

Overall this is a good, fast-paced read that will keep you smiling and wishing it was a movie. The story is that good. It's a laugh a minute and a good thriller all rolled into one story."

A Romance With a Twist by John Charles

I was recently contacted by Author John Charles in regards to his new release novel, In Death He Lives, a romantic tale involving two men: one comfortable with his sexuality and the other torn between his inner feelings and family.  Having never promoted in this genre I was hesitant to move forward, but when John informed me the majority of his readers are women between 21 and 51, looking for something different in the romance market, I was intrigued.
Mr. Charles delivers with this love story, branching into struggles that can lift or destroy.  He's ventured well beyond what you'd expect in any type of romance, taking a character to the edge of death where he lives a separate life in his comatose mind.  You'll sense the player's heart-wrenching trials, and like so many who have reviewed this book, you'll come away enriched.

I loved the way the author wove a tale of two lives with wonderful unexpected twists and turns which culminated into a beautiful ending. Book #1 of The Raven Falconer Chronicles is FREE today through Sept 1, 2014.

Reviews:
Ally McMahon:
"Operation Z-Day from the Raven Falconer Chronicles is an action packed suspense filled post apocalyptic zombie thriller. Author Dennis Larsen surpasses expectations with this captivating and alluring story of the fight against a virus spreading and destroying the minds of all who contract the virus turning them into zombies fueled only by basic instincts. Although steps are taken to stop the spread of this virus it is too late. Millions are now infected. Here we join the main characters in the fight of their lives.

This book in the series sets the background and the story line firmly in place. The characters are well developed and I find myself eager to get onto the next book to find out how this will play out.

For an exciting and intense zombie experience I highly recommend it!"

ReadersUnite:
"Raven and her friends are fun, interesting and well fleshed out. Pun intended (you'll get it when you read the books). Their dreadful adventure is fast-paced, thrilling and keeps you guessing. This is like no other apocalyptic work. Larsen knows what came before him, and he plays with well known themes while making his own unique story. His first book is a fun take on themes that needed a new, interesting voice. Well paced, interesting read that this reader really enjoyed. I give this book about apocalypse, friendship, love, and endurance despite the odds: 5 out of 5 Opinionated Zombies or stars."

Love and Money are two important ingredients in a man’s recipe for happiness. Unfortunately, those same two ingredients under the wrong circumstances can be a man’s recipe for disaster.

Unlucky at love, unemployed and drowning in debt, Thomas O’Connor is a man in need of salvation.

When an unexpected gift arrives from an unknown source, Tom is confused, yet elated about his new-found fortune. His luck continues when he runs into an old flame he hasn’t seen in years and sparks begin to fly. Strange how a man’s fate can change when he least expects it – one moment he’s miserable and struggling to make ends meet, and the next he’s back on his feet and looking forward to a bright future… or so he thought.

Then Tom’s rediscovered love reveals the shocking skeletons in her past, and he must decide to forgive and forget or turn his back and walk away. If he chooses to stay, he must find a way to live with the violent action required to keep her in his life. An innocent search on the Internet unveils a problem that could stand between Tom’s good fortune and ultimately, the love of his life.

They say that love is blind and money is the root of all evil, but sometimes you don’t realize that until it’s too late.

A Fool and His Money is a novella about love, happiness, desire, greed and murder.

Amazon 5 Star Review by Kyla:
"Tom is an average man who has had a a run of bad luck. He is drowning in debt, has no social life, and doesn't see things changing anytime soon. So, when an unexpected inheritance shows up, naturally Tom believes all of his problems will be solved. However, more money brings more problems, and Tom finds himself way over his head.

A Fool and His Money is a great story about one man's endless struggle to improve his life. The characters are well defined and believable. The story line has some nice twists to keep the reader on the edge of their seat. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down.

I look forward to reading more from John D. Ottini in the future."

Visit Hell - I'm Not Kidding!

Scott Leddy's Beyond Gehenna Series is one of the most thought provoking ideas I've seen in some time.  The Vietnam War, for many of us that grew up during those traumatic years, taught us about the world and good vs. a perceived evil.  This author takes it a step beyond the norm and descends with his main character into the very jaws of hell, where the reader can only imagine what they will find.
We are featuring these books on eReaderRecon because they've been lost in the thousands of books that compete for your view, and these should not be missed.

Please take a minute to view the book's information and see if you're ready to visit hell!  I know I was and there's no turning back.

Book #1 Synopsis:

Attempting to escape his troubled past and his horrific nightmares, Elgin Thomas flounders deep in the heart of Vietnam's central highland district. Soon exposed to a corrupt and immoral society--a society consumed with chaos and injustice, where the laws of man are subjective and God has turned a deaf ear--the war, for him, takes a heavy toll.

While on a clandestine mission, Elgin is confronted by the dreaded Khmer Rouge, in Cambodia's deadly killing fields. Faced with his own mortality and questioning his faith, he must make a choice: abandon his mission and flee or stay and fight. It isn't until he is fatally wounded that a bad situation turns into the unthinkable.

Beyond Gehenna: Tour of Duty is volume one of a two part series, which grabs the reader's attention from the very beginning, presenting a bone-chilling depiction of the realities of war and a horrifying glimpse into the after life. A thrilling roller-coaster ride that doesn't stop until its surprise ending...

Book #2 Synopsis:

Elgin Thomas's iniquitous past soon catches up with him. He wanders the fiery depths of Hell, where his fortitude and sanity are continually challenged. Introduced to a cast of unsavory characters, Elgin must learn to adapt and survive as he traverses through the Underworld's scorching, volcanic terrain. It is a world of serial killers, demons, satanic rituals, secret societies, petty criminals, and an entire host of some of history's most ruthless tyrants.

Attempting to atone for his sins, Elgin seeks salvation--but is he trying to find a way out of the abyss, or is he merely attempting to cope with his own delusional mind?

Desire & Prejudice by Jean-Louis McMillan

I had one of eReaderRecon's authors contact me today with a request, and I'm happy to assist him by posting his note.  He has written a steamy romance, which has received excellent reviews and boasts an Amazon 4.6 Star rating.  The eBook will be on sale for a few days so take advantage of the low price while it lasts.

Amazon Sale to Aug 20th $0.99

Please take a moment to read his request:

"URGENT: NEED YOUR HELP

Please assist me to break Amazon's algorithm, which presents a clear priority to the well-known writers, agents and publishers, leaving behind the new indie writers:
25 downloads in one day, boosted up my book Amazon’s rank from 478.560 to 11.141.
It's obviously a virtuoso jump, but I need #20 or less to make Amazon’s algorithm display my book to potential readers proactively.
My book is now sold on Amazon for 99 cents (up to August 20), I need a couple hundred sales each day to break forward this barrier.
Please help spread this message far and wide
I’m certain you’ll love this book and beside that, you’ll aid a new writer to overcome the unfair competition of those who already have a well-oiled system to use Amazon's algorithm for their profit, and leaves the new writers behind.
Thanks for your help, everyone!"

The Raven Falconer Chronicles Review

The winner of a Goodreads' Giveaway was kind enough to share her thoughts about the series with the Goodreads' community and I've posted her comments here:

I really enjoyed this collection for many different reasons:
1) the realism was extreme, this is the most realistic zombie/apocalyptic book i have ever read, the way the characters react and the science behind the infection made for an extremely believable and haunting story.
2) Nathan was an amazing character and i really liked the contrast between him and Eli, the both made the story so much more complex.
3) Not only did our protagonists have to survive against the cannibalistic huskers but they also had to fight with other humans, the narratives i loved how the story developed with the narratives as it is something i could definitely imagine happening in our society.
overall, a very good story start to finish with interesting characters and plots, i would recommend to anyone who likes survival/apocalyptic/zombie books :)
FYI- I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

Romance in the Australian Outback

Author, Olivia Bersell, has written an engaging love story set against the harsh landscape of Australia's wilderness.  Under the Burning Sky is highly rated at 4.9 stars on Amazon with enough reviewers to satisfy any skeptics.  I recently purchased the book, and although I haven't finished it, I can recommend it to you for your consideration.  The characters are 'real' and truly likeable, creating a comfortable feel to the book that I'm enjoying.

If romance is your genre please spend a few minutes with this captivating title.

Amazon 5 Star Review by K Banes:
"Under The Burning Sky is a compelling story of love and what can unexpectedly get in the way of it. Set in 1969, but with a contemporary feel to it, the story takes us from Chicago to a remote station in the Australian outback. The main character is hugely likable and the love story very tender and believable. As someone who has visited the Aussie outback I also found the setting very realistic.

A great choice if you like romance, with a real story behind it and a bit of intrigue. This is a novella so it's fairly short, and the writing style makes it a very pleasant, easy read.

Disclosure: I was fortunate to receive an advance copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions are my own."

Amazon 5 Star Review by The Book Dork:
"I read this book in one sitting and enjoyed every minute. Loved the Australian setting, loved the hero and his backstory. All the characters are written with a lot of depth and the plot line of the novella is well written. I just had to know what would happen next. This is not your average read. Real people with less then fairy tale lives. Under the Burning Sky has a bit of everything...adventure…mystery…and romance. First time I read this author and found this tale impressive. I will continue to read her trilogy and am looking forward to the next installment. I highly recommend this engrossing tale set in the Australian “down-under”."

A Children's Book For Me

For many years I've encouraged my family to think outside the box, and then a few years ago they surprised me with a birthday gift they'd worked on together for weeks: a 'touch & feel' book entitled 'The Marvelous Mind of Marvin Marsh'.  At the time it brought tears to my eyes, knowing how many hours had been sacrificed in carefully writing and illustrating the book.  I have cherished it over the years and my grandchildren have enjoyed having me read it to them.  I had hoped we would find a way to share it with friends and other family members but producing such a book was beyond our means and understanding.  Finally, I found an illustrator, Dukudraw in Malaysia, with the skills to help my wife convert her book to a paperback and Kindle version.
I'm so proud of the work Holly has put into this unique project.

Today the the final product is available on Amazon
It's geared for small children with a repetitive, sing-song dialogue and 18 full color pages of wonderful creatures.  You can see a few of those pages below:

A.L. Sowards' WWII Trilogy

Book #1
I literally stumbled across this awesome trilogy while surfing Twitter the other day.  Historical Fiction is my favorite genre of reading and I hope to one day write something along these lines, but Ms. Sowards has been there an already done that.  She's written a compelling series of books with elements to delight and invite readers of all ages.  The books are published through a small publishing house and available online (Amazon), as well as Seagull and Deseret Book outlets.

Book #2
Book #3

She, and her works, are currently featured 'In the Crosshairs' section of our site, eReader Recon.  Take a minute and see what she has to offer.  We're sure you won't be disappointed.

A Nice Review by Jim

Just when sitting down at the keyboard looks more like a chore than fun, a reviewer brightens your day.  I can't tell you how many times this has happened for me.  Yesterday I stayed up quite late, trying to push my way through another chapter of The Living Hunger sequel, but feeling somewhat labored and stressed.  By the time I went to bed, I was excited by the prospects the story was beginning to take on and then I noted a nice, little review by Amazon reader, Jim.
It's funny how a few appeciative, encouraging words can motivate and inspire.
Thanks, Jim, whoever you are.  I'm seated at the computer this afternoon with a greater desire to create and explore.

5 Star Amazon Review by Jim (appears on Vengeance Fulfilled)

My brother's birthday - a landmark.

My oldest brother, Steve, turned 60 this week and the event has sent me back in time to our childhood.  He is five years older than me but we've always been close: sharing the same likes and even choosing the identical career path.  We worked in the same clinic for nine years before I branched out on my own.  Steve has always inspired me to reach beyond myself, which is one of the reasons I started to write.  Many years ago, he wrote a wartime saga that he sat aside when a know-it-all publisher tore it to shreds.  I've encouraged him to pick it up again but without success.  It is well written and worthy of publication - I guess I'll continue to hound and invite.

I know this has been a tough birthday for Steve.  Our mother passed away at 60 from cancer, so his celebration has been a reminder of our mortality and how precious and fleeting life can be.  How grateful I am to have loving friends and family who inspire me and lift me each and every day.  Happy Birthday Big Brother - may you have many more!

Rise of the Huskers - Free Amazon Download

June 1-2 The Rise of the Huskers will be available as a free download from Amazon.  The second of three episodes follows Husker Leader Nathan Edwards as he builds his pack and they evolve, using islands of undamaged cerebral tissue to learn.  A third party is introduced in this segment: a warring faction of a local native tribe seeks to gain control of the region and further threatens Raven and her friends.  Episode two explores the viral human destruction from the Husker's point of view - anything could happen.

FREE June 1-2

Amazon Review:
"Rise of the Huskers is the second installment in the Raven Falconer Chronicles. Having greatly enjoyed the first book in the series (Operation Z-Day) I was happily surprised to find that Author Dennis Larsen outdoes himself again with Rise of the Huskers. Here we are presented with the same lovable characters in the fight of their lives against zombie like humans that have now developed a pack mentality. Raven and her friends must struggle, improvise and fight for their survival, resources and to maintain their health and security.

I enjoyed Larsen’s ability to maintain an element of suspense and thrills amidst lust greed and raw truth. I also enjoyed Larsen’s ability to paint with words vivid scenery that brings the story fully to life. I highly recommend it!" -- Ally McMahon
